Motive unleashes proactive AI ‘Agents’

The new platform automatically triggers immediate responses to prevent collisions, reduce excessive idling, and expedite work orders without waiting on manual manager review.

Key Highlights

  • Automates real-time responses to fleet safety and operational issues, reducing manual intervention.
  • Targets critical areas such as driver fatigue, severe weather, vehicle maintenance, and idling reduction.
  • Allows fleet managers to reallocate resources toward safety coordination and training by automating routine tasks.

Motive today launched “Agents,” a new AI tool designed to anticipate and automatically respond to fleet safety and operational issues, at American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rather than generating passive alerts for fleet managers to review, the Agents platform utilizes existing safety and operations data to trigger immediate, automated actions. The system can call drivers, opening work orders, and notifying managers the moment an issue requires attention. According to Motive, the commercial transportation industry loses an estimated $46 billion annually to preventable issues such as vehicle downtime, compliance violations, and unproductive idling. The company’s 2026 ROI Report indicated 42% of organizations view operational inefficiencies—including excessive administrative workloads—as a top concern.

“Our customers don’t need another alert; they need action,” Hemant Banavar, Motive’s chief product officer, said in a news release. “The data that prevents collisions and breakdowns already lives in Motive. Agents put it to work the moment it matters, so teams can grow without adding headcount.”

Jared Whitson, senior director of safety and compliance for the Bennett Family of Companies, noted the automation will allow his safety management team to shift focus away from manual data cross-referencing. “Motive Agents will allow us to handle that work the moment something happens—a one-time setup, and from that point forward the platform executes,” Whitson said. “Agents, and Motive’s vision for it, will let us reallocate resources toward things like field safety coordination, meaningful corrective actions, and training.”

Fleets can configure the system using guided workflows or ready-to-use templates to define specific conditions and the corresponding automated responses, Motive said. The platform targets several high-stakes operational areas:

  • Driver fatigue: The system detects early signs of fatigue before conditions become unsafe.
  • Severe weather: The AI monitors active routes for changing conditions like ice, storms, or high winds, warning drivers while the weather is still miles away.
  • Maintenance: When a vehicle registers a specific fault code, the system can explain the severity of the issue, open a work order in Motive Maintenance, and mark the vehicle out of service to expedite repairs.
  • Idle reduction: The platform flags excessive idling in real-time and prompts the driver to shut off the engine. It factors in ambient temperature so necessary idling during extreme weather is not penalized.

Later this year, Motive plans to integrate Atlas, its AI assistant, to call drivers directly in the cab to provide guidance, such as recommending alternate routes during bad weather or walking them through a safe response to a fault code. Early next year, the company plans to introduce a feature allowing fleets to create new Agents using plain-language goals, such as requesting “lower operating costs” or “fewer collisions,” with the AI determining the optimal path to achieve those results.
