Motive recently launched a new AI-powered maintenance system designed to help operators track and manage repair workflows within a single platform. The tool aims to consolidate vehicle health data, repair processes, and maintenance spending to catch mechanical issues before they lead to breakdowns.
Unplanned downtime remains a significant burden for commercial fleets, costing an estimated $448 to $760 per vehicle each day. According to Motive’s research, 80% of fleet professionals consider rising maintenance and repair costs to be their primary operational challenge, a problem often exacerbated by fragmented management systems.
“Teams shouldn’t learn about a failure from a roadside call—they should have the insight and ability to act early and prevent a costly breakdown,” Hemant Banavar, Motive’s chief product officer, said in a news release. “With Motive Maintenance integrated directly into the broader Motive platform, organizations have a comprehensive and early picture of a vehicle’s health, which allows them to proactively address issues before they become costly failures.”
The platform utilizes AI diagnostics to translate complex fault codes into plain-language explanations, prioritizing issues based on severity, Motive reported. It also features automated workflows that convert inspection defects, captured via the Motive Driver App, into digital work orders, ensuring critical repairs aren’t missed.
Additionally, the system tracks warranties to prevent fleets from paying for covered repairs and monitors multi-location inventory to avoid over-ordering parts.
“Before Motive Maintenance, what happened on the road and what happened in the shop were two separate records,” noted Luke Crawley, H&R Agri Power fleet manager. “Now inspections, fault codes, and work orders will be able to run through a single system so problems surface sooner, more of our assets stay in service, and we will finally see the real cost of operating our fleet.”
