DFS acquires A1 Diesel Service, opens FleeTec Academy

DFS recently acquired A1 Diesel Service of Hendersonville TN and launched the new FleeTec Academy.

Dickinson Fleet Services (DFS) recently acquired A1 Diesel Service of Hendersonville TN and launched the new FleeTec Academy for technician training in Indianapolis IN.

The company said the acquisition, its ninth since 2017 and third this year, expands its mobile fleet services division.

Located north of Nashville, A1 Diesel has provided comprehensive fleet repair services since 1970. With a state-of-the-art facility and seasoned diesel technicians, A1 has a strong reputation for providing quality repairs and excellent customer service, DFS said.

“We are excited about investing in the Nashville, Tennessee market, expanding our fleet service centers and our on-site mobile services presence in the Midwest,” executive officers Ted Coltrain and Mike Dickinson said in a joint statement.

“The addition of A1 Diesel is a great complement to the 20-plus mobile service units currently operating in the Nashville market.”

FleeTec is utilizing state-of-the-art technology and hands-on curriculum to attract motivated and talented employees with little or no prior mechanical experience, helping develope skilled, industry-certified technicians, according to DFS.

Candidates attend an in-residence educational program designed to establish foundational mechanical skills. Those programs are followed by a structured internship and extended education for the development of advanced skills at one of the DFS Service Centers or field service locations nationwide DFS maintained.

FleeTec candidates are paid competitive wages throughout the program, including coverage of all expenses, and are provided with a comprehensive set of mechanic’s tools. After completing the program, these techs set out on a career path with the nation’s largest independent fleet maintenance and repair provider, and are outfitted with the technical skills and credentials they need to become an elite performer.

“We are reaching beyond the rising shortage of available skilled talent in our industry and are fueling our future growth with the creation of the FleeTec Academy, which will bring in a new stream of talent,” said Steve Ginn, DFS vice president. “There is an untapped population of extremely capable men and women who are highly motivated to pursue a mechanical service technology career but who have just not been able to overcome the typical barriers to entry, most notably time and money.

“FleeTec is an opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has what it takes to remain focused and dedicated to both work and education full-time as they complete this exceptional, rigorous training program.”
