UPT names 2020 Driver of the Year

Feb. 8, 2021
Two-time nominee Nasser, an immigrant from East Africa, captures first honor after 14 years of service

United Petroleum Transports (UPT) recently named Albuquerque NM-based independent contractor Alkarim Nasser its 2020 Driver of the Year.

Nasser, who also was nominated previously, was awarded UPT’s highest honor for the first time during the company’s annual awards celebration. He was one of 12 UPT professional drivers nominated for the award. Each of the nominees are capable company representatives who are committed to safety and customer service.

Nasser has been with UPT for 14 years. He came to America from East Africa in 1997 and quickly found success as a professional driver. Nasser was accompanied by wife Safina when Greg Price, UPT president and CEO, and David Price, chief operating officer, surprised him with the Driver of the Year trophy and $18,000 in cash and prizes.

“It’s always one of the highlights of the year to be able to present the Driver of the Year award,” Greg Price said. “Karim is such a great man, and we are so blessed to have him as a part of our professional driver family.”

UPT said many customers, vendors and friends donated gifts that were included in Nasser’s prize haul. The company typical hosts an in-person awards banquet, but this year’s event was presented virtually due to the pandemic.
