United Petroleum Transports (UPT) recently named David Ramirez of El Paso the company’s 2021 Driver of the Year.

Ramirez was awarded UPT’s highest honor during its Annual Awards Celebration held in January in Nashville, Tenn. He was one of 12 finalists who were selected from among UPT’s team of more than 500 professional drivers. This is Ramirez’s third time as a Driver of the Year finalist, and his first time winning the coveted award.

“It’s always one of the highlights of the year to be able to present the Driver of the Year award,” said Greg Price, UPT’s CEO. “David is a great man, and we are so blessed to have him as a part of our professional driver family.”

Ramirez has been driving professionally for 35 years, 18 of which have been with UPT. “The customers he serves in El Paso can count on him to provide a seamless delivery every time,” the company said. “His work ethic, skill, and commitment to safety are unmatched, and he is the prime example of what UPT seeks in each of our professional drivers.”

Ramirez and his wife, Celia Ramirez—who have three children and two grandchildren—have been married for 39 years. She was by Ramirez’s side at the award ceremony when Price announced him as the 2021 Driver of the Year. Matt Herndon, UPT president, and COO David Price also were in attendance.

The newly crowned Driver of the Year received a trophy, and $25,643 in cash and prizes, UPT said, adding that customers, vendors, and friends donated gifts to be included in the overall prize.

“We are very thankful for their continued support,” the company concluded.
