Gallery: Inside ADM’s investment in food-grade cleaning
ADM, a Fortune 50 leader in food and feed ingredients, recently bolstered its massive North American transportation network with a state-of-the-art tanker cleaning facility in Decatur, Illinois. Managing a private fleet that includes 550 trucks and 1,200 trailers, ADM Trucking’s new multi-million-dollar investment reflects a deep commitment to maintaining the integrity of the global food supply chain.
The new six-bay, food-grade wash rack was designed and outfitted by The Peacock Company and built adjacent to ADM’s 30-year-old facility to ensure zero operational disruptions during the transition. Featuring Peacock’s Model 660 cleaning system, the facility employs high-pressure, low-volume spinners that increase sustainability by reducing water waste while providing Kosher-certified washouts. The system is highly automated, utilizing dedicated PLCs for each machine to provide product-tailored washes and digital records of critical data—such as time, temperature, and seal numbers—ensuring a transparent and integrated “paper trail.”
Beyond cleaning efficiency, the facility enhances worker safety with center-mount mezzanines and ensures equipment quality with high-powered blowers that leave tanks clean, dry, and odor-free. This strategic project also allows ADM to repurpose its older eight-bay facility into a modernized maintenance and repair shop, further optimizing their regional operations.
