Taskmaster Components plans to launch its new UL-HD 17.5-in. single flow formed trailer wheel in early 2027, introducing an engineered design that delivers weight savings and resolves common fitment challenges for trailer manufacturers.
Weighing 44 lbs., the new wheel is 12% to 16% lighter than the industry standard, effectively reducing unsprung weight without sacrificing structural integrity, the company reported. Taskmaster achieved this lighter profile by utilizing high-grade steel and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate stress distribution and eliminate wasted material. Additionally, the supplier employed flow forming technology to compress and strengthen the metal in critical areas. To address fitment issues common in traditional designs, the redesign increases the hub seating surface size and alters the rim well to better accommodate various hub designs.
Rethinking a standard wheel design wasn’t the easiest path, but it was necessary to move the industry forward, according to Taskmaster Components CEO Amanda Walker.
“Investing in product improvements is about much more than creating a new product line to sell,” Walker said, noting that investments in product quality ultimately serve the end user. “It’s about exploring better ways to serve our manufacturing customers and the people who use their trailers for work or for play.”
