The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide inched up slightly

The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide inched up slightly, gaining 0.6 cent to $2.674 a gallon for its sixth consecutive gain, according to US Department of Energy information.

Diesel’s price has climbed 17.8 cents in the past six weeks, though the August 31 increase was the smallest in that period. The fuel is now $1.447 below the same week a year earlier, shortly after diesel reached a record high of $4.764 a gallon in mid-July 2008.

The least-expensive region for diesel remains the Gulf Coast at $2.618, and the most expensive is California at $2.893.
