The annual trip to Tank Truck Week is off the table.

National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) said Thursday it is cancelling North America’s largest tank truck event, slated for Oct 6-8 in Dallas TX, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the varied attempts to slow the spread of the virus through emergency declarations, travel constraints and restrictions on gatherings.

The association instead is developing a digital process for delivering key components of Tank Truck Week, including the reveal of the North American Safety Contest Champions.

“The overwhelming impact of the COVID-19 pandemic renders it impossible for us to host the NTTC’s Tank Truck Week,” Dan Furth, NTTC president, said in a letter to tank truck industry stakeholders. “While an extremely difficult decision, the association’s leadership stands committed to best practices to ensure that all members of tank truck nation are safe from unnecessary exposure to the virus.

“Cancellation of major NTTC events like TTW and our Annual Conference greatly impact the association’s revenue, margins and cash flow, just like the experience of many of our members since the onset of the virus in late March. Yet, NTTC forefathers were prescient in planning for crises like the virus and we stand well-positioned to weather the storm as we continue to advance the industry’s interests through advocacy and education.

“Accordingly, we will refund all Tank Truck Week and Cargo Tank Inspection Workshop registrations, and will work with our exhibitors on refunds and alternative 2021 options by Aug 21, 2020.”

NTTC said it will share the details of its virtual plans as soon as they are confirmed.

“Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we try to navigate this rapidly changing landscape,” Furth concluded.

“We will follow up with more information as developments warrant.”
