John Francis Grimm, 69, of Savannah GA and a past chairman of the National Tank Truck Carriers, died November 17 in Savannah. His cremated remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery early in 2009. Grimm joined O'Boyle Tank Lines after serving in the Marine Corps from 1961-1964 and served as the carrier's president and chairman of the board from 1975-85. An attorney, Grimm also served as president of the DC Trucking Association, as a director of the American Trucking Associations, and later worked at the US Department of Transportation in Washington DC as director of the Office of Motor Carriers, retiring in 2005. During retirement, Grimm tutored students in Savannah and published several magazine articles. He was a member of Congressional Country Club in Washington DC, the Landings Club of Savannah, the National Rifle Association, the Chatterbox Club of Washington DC, and St James Catholic Church in Savannah. Grimm is survived by his wife, Ellen Farrell Grimm of Savannah; a daughter, Regina Whitesell of Easton MD; a son, David Grimm of Hong Kong; six grandchildren, David, Katherine, John, Joseph, and Peter Whitesell and Sofia Grimm; four sisters, Mary Constance Britell, Mary Jo Donohoe, Regina Dickens, and Suzanne Hawkins; and two brothers, Michael and Paul Grimm.
