The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released Our Nation's Highways 2000, a biennial publication with information on the nation's roads and highway

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released Our Nation's Highways — 2000, a biennial publication with information on the nation's roads and highway users. Information on both a national and a state-by-state basis includes:

  • The number of vehicles and licensed drivers.
  • Fuel tax rates and the amount of fuel consumed.
  • Highway fatalities.
  • Highway and transportation expenditures.

This publication also contains data from large urban areas on the number of highway miles, vehicle miles traveled, and trips per capita. In addition, the publication has commute times and lengths, telecommuting trends, freight transportation, and comparisons of travel in the United States with foreign nations.

Offering data to end of calendar year 2000, this report can be accessed at www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/onh00/index.htm.
