The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide decreased for a third consecutive week, according to US Department of Energy information.

Diesel prices dipped 0.3 cent to close at $2.787 a gallon. Prices had climbed 22.6 cents in the previous four weeks before declines of 1.1 cents a week ago and 0.7 cent two weeks ago. The downturn put diesel prices 12.3 cents below the same period in 2008.

The Gulf Coast’s average price was up $0.005 to $2.738 a gallon while the Rocky Mountain region rose $0.005 to $2.825 per gallon.
