Continental Tire North America Inc (CTNA) is removing some of the confusion that exists in comparing new truck tires with its new ContiCostCalculator for truck fleets.

This fuel-savings calculator for fleet customers was first introduced in 2006, said Tom Fanning, CTNA's director of original equipment sales-The Americas. Enhancements to the calculator have now made it a tool to compare the total cost of ownership of different brands and models of truck tires, resulting in a new name: the ContiCostCalculator.

Fleets that increase their miles-per-gallon efficiency will actually save more on their lifetime cost of tire ownership versus purchasing a tire with longer mileage, Fanning said.

New features of the ContiCostCalculator will not only help evaluate fuel savings through rolling resistance data comparison, but also factors in total tire cost, including base price, estimated lifetime mileage, and tire casing value. The final result will simplify tire buying by showing truck fleets how much they can save in both annual costs of replacement tires and fuel when they choose Continental truck tires.
