Newly launched Shell Telematics uses tracking technology, fuel card data to provide fleet owners with actionable intelligence

Shell Oil Products US recently launched Shell Telematics, which uses tracking technology to transform data into actionable insights for fleet owners.

Shell Telematics integrates fuel card data with data generated by a fleet’s vehicles to provide increased visibility into driver behavior and vehicle performance, helping fleet owners run their businesses more efficiently, Shell said.

The data is processed and delivered in the form of clear, relevant insights that can be used to increase security, safety and productivity, as well as to position the business to be competitive in the future. The increased visibility into day-to-operations also supports environmental sustainability by cutting down on vehicle emissions.

“Shell Telematics was designed to help fleets operate more efficiently, while also boosting safety both on and off the road,” said Rusty Barron, Shell’s vice president and general manager of fleet solutions in North America. “We are thrilled to strengthen our product portfolio by allowing fleet managers to lower their total cost of ownership through increased visibility into their operations and a stronger connection with their drivers.”

Key highlights of the ‘easy-to-use’ service platform include:

  • With a satellite map view, Google Street View and traffic information, users can track the location and movement of all vehicles to proactively intervene and increase vehicle availability
  • Journey history offers access to all routes made, including details such as date, time, start and finish locations, drivetime and distance travelled
  • Insight into driver performance based on the length and severity of the speeding, acceleration, idling time and braking events can be used to reduce costs and CO2 emissions, and incentivize improved driving skills
  • Shell Telematics is certified with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for fleets subjects to ELD compliance.
