Boasso America expandsNJ tank container service

Boasso America Corporation, a subsidiary of Quality Distribution Inc, Tampa FL, has expanded its network by opening a $6 million full-scale tank container service depot in Newark NJ and is planning expansion of its Savannah GA facility.

The 10-acre New Jersey facility, located at 80 Doremus Avenue, provides tank container maintenance and repair, cleaning, transportation, heating, and storage.

The cleaning facility consists of a five-bay tank wash, state-of-the-art control room, and tank cleaning system. Two in-line boilers power the 24-unit electronically controlled heating system that provides low pressure steam, electric, and hot water options.

The 36,000-square-foot maintenance and repair facility will house a tank welding area, tank repair stands, and a truck and chassis repair area.

"The NJ market represents a large opportunity for both Boasso and its customers," said Scott Giroir, Boasso America president. "The tank container trade is growing rapidly, and we will meet the needs of our customers through geographical expansion.”

The Newark facility employs approximately 35 people, including mechanics, tank cleaners, drivers, and support staff.

Expansion into the Savannah market also is a result of intermodal growth in port areas. “Savannah is the fastest growing port on the East Coast, and is am important gateway to the Far East and to the rest of the world," said Giroir. "Our operation there has grown significantly and we intend to support that growth by building the facilities we need. With locations in Charleston, Savannah, and Jacksonville, Boasso can share resources between facilities to ensure customer needs are met. This is paramount to our customer-focus philosophy.”

Boasso America has served the tank container industry for over 25 years and operates facilities in addition to Newark and Savannah in Chicago IL; Detroit MI; Charleston SC; Jacksonville FL; New Orleans LA; and Houston TX.
