TRB lifetime award named in honor of Charles H Hochman

With a unanimous vote at the Transportation Research Board annual meeting Charles H Hochman, former director, Office of Hazardous Materials Technology, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety administration, was awarded the TRB AT040 lifetime achievement award for 2014.

This award was also dedicated to him and will bear his name in perpetuity. He is the first recipient of this award. Hochman was a longstanding member and friend of the TRB Committee on the Transportation of Hazardous Materials, and he made significant contributions to the advancement of the hazardous materials safety throughout his career. Enough cannot be said about Hochman and he will be truly missed. A letter and the attached certificate were sent to his family on behalf of the committee.

AT040 members agreed to create the Charlie H Hochman Outstanding/Lifetime Achievement Award and an Outstanding Paper, Research, or Contribution Award in order to recognize outstanding achievement in the advancement of hazardous materials research, innovation, regulation, or management.  Awards will be granted on an annual basis and nominations will be accepted until October 31 every year.
