Groendyke named to Victory Media’s 2015 military-friendly employer list

Nov. 12, 2014

Groendyke Transport has earned the 2015 Military Friendly Employer designation by Victory Media, publisher of GI Jobs and Military Spouse. It was one of the 180 companies chosen for this prestigious honor.

Companies competed for the elite Military Friendly Employer title by completing a data-driven survey, with data independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP, based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media and its Advisory Board. Criteria for the survey included a benchmark score across key programs and policies, such as strength of company military recruiting efforts, percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs for veterans, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

Groendyke Transport is committed to hiring military talent, knowing first-hand that recruiting from the military community can lead to strategic competitive advantage.

Groendyke President Greg Hodgen said he believes that employers have a duty to support our retired and returning military veterans. “At Groendyke we have placed a strategic emphasis on recruiting and retraining military veterans,” he said. “Not only are we reaching out to our bases in the United States, but also to our returning veteran organizations and communities. They come home and have to look for jobs. This shouldn’t be the case. Due to their service and sacrifice, we should be looking for them, not the other way around.”

He said he also believes that the type of character and skills that our military personnel embody is an excellent fit for Groendyke. “At Groendyke we haul and handle highly volatile products, and it takes a special type of individual who possesses discipline, attention to detail, and composure under pressure and stress,” he said. “These characteristics align extremely well with our military personnel.”

“The 2015 Military Friendly Employers represent the preeminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses,” said Sean Collins, vice-president for Victory Media and nine-year Navy veteran. “Our Military Friendly Employers constitute the group of companies moving the needle and realizing significant benefits by hiring from the military community. This year’s group of companies reported hiring over 155,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, representing a 35% increase over last year and an average of 15% of total new hires.”

Groendyke Transport will be showcased, along with other 2015 Military Friendly Employers, in the December issue of GI Jobs magazine, as well as on http://www.militaryfriendly.com/

Groendyke is also a proud member of the Army PaYS program, and received the prestigious honor of being named a 2014 Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military by CivilianJobs.com.
