Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corporation (OL&T) has joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership, earning the highest rating of 1.25.
The partnership is a voluntary collaboration between the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the transportation industry designed to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution and improve fuel efficiency. A score of 1.25 represents outstanding environmental performance and indicates that OL&T is already utilizing carriers that employ most of the commercially available fuel-saving strategies as well as actively evaluating the latest emerging technologies.
OL&T will contribute to the partnership’s goal by helping to reduce 33 million to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog.
Launched in February 2004, SmartWay brings together freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies, and industry associations to pursue mutually beneficial strategies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements.
