Ray H LaHood was sworn in as Secretary of Transportation January 23 in Washington DC. Before being named to President Obama's Cabinet, he was a Republican serving in the US House of Representatives.

In Congress, he represented the 18th District of Illinois. He is a former teacher, served in the Illinois State House of Representatives, and was district administrative assistant for former US Rep Robert Michel (R-IL) for four years, succeeding him upon retirement.
