Spurred by higher oil prices, the average price of a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide climbed for a third consecutive week, jumping 6.3 cents to $2.991 a gallon, its biggest increase in four months, according to US Department of Energy information.
Diesel has now risen 9.2 cents in the past three weeks, and the recent upturn left it 36.6 cents higher than the same week in 2009. Prior to the three recent gains, trucking’s main fuel fell 6.2 cents in the previous month, and it is now 13.6 cents below the year’s high of $3.127 per gallon, set May 10.
All regions of the nation showed an increase, topped by a 7.2-cent gain in the lower Atlantic states, according to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy.
