Chris Spear is out as American Trucking Associations’ top executive.

Spear, who served as ATA president and CEO for more than a decade, informed the association’s executive committee of his decision Friday, Aug. 21, cutting short a contract extension that was slated to run through 2029.

Current ATA Chairman Greg Hodgen, CEO of prominent tank truck carrier Groendyke Transport, delivered the news to media and membership. He noted that ATA’s board has convened a search committee to select Spear’s successor.

“During his tenure, ATA secured significant policy victories, strengthened its advocacy operation, and elevated trucking’s voice in Washington,” Hodgen said in an official statement. “One of Chris’ most important accomplishments was assembling an exceptionally talented and experienced team to represent this industry.

“ATA has the advocacy horsepower to keep advancing our priorities without missing a beat.”
