Penn Tank Lines, a bulk transporter headquartered in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, is commemorating its 50th anniversary with celebrations planned throughout September, including during American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which is scheduled for Sept. 15-21.
Jack McSherry, who now serves as chairman, founded Penn Tank as a gas hauler in 1974 in Philadelphia. Today, the carrier operates 500 trucks delivering a range of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, which the company grew in 2020 and 2021 with the acquisitions of Stardust Transportation, Jet Star, and CD Hallock Trucking that moved the business into Indiana, South Carolina, and Texas.
Penn Tank, which also hauls food-grade products, ISO tanks, and flatbed trailers, now services customers across two-thirds of the U.S. from more than 30 terminals.
“Their loyalty, resiliency, and drive have fueled our growth and success.”
Penn Tank credits much of its success to its guiding mission to provide high-quality and “S.A.F.E.” transportation services. The family-owned carrier’s S.A.F.E.—safe, accurate, flexible, and efficient—delivery system now serves as the benchmark for operations, helping leaders preserve its cherished core values while adapting to industry changes across five decades of evolution in the tank truck sector.
“Looking ahead, Penn Tank Lines shows no signs of slowing down,” the carrier stated. “With a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future, the company is poised for continued growth and innovation in the petroleum transportation industry.”
