Nikola Corporation recently opened a Hyla-branded high-pressure modular hydrogen refueling station and facility near the Port of Long Beach in Southern California.

The May 4 launch is part of Nikola’s plan to establish a network of up to nine refueling solutions by the middle of this year, and 14 operational sites by the end of 2024, including a combination of Hyla modular fuelers and partner stations, such as the FirstElement Fuels facility in the Port of Oakland, the company reported.

“We are thrilled to inaugurate our second Hyla hydrogen refueling station in Southern California, marking a significant stride toward sustainable transportation,” Ole Hoefelmann, Nikola president of energy, said in a news release. “Our heartfelt appreciation extends to the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Fire Department for their instrumental role in realizing this vision.

“With multiple stations in the pipeline this year, we are steadfast in our mission to pioneer zero-emission trucking solutions and drive positive environmental impact.”

The new hydrogen refueling station is located at 2267 W. Gaylord St. in Long Beach.

Nikola’s refueling infrastructure is supported by Hyla “ambassadors” and operation technicians who provide “round-the-clock” assistance, ensuring “seamless and efficient” fueling, the company added. The Hyla network plans to offer diverse refueling solutions to Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and other Class 8 customers, including modular and permanent stations, “behind-the-fence” facilities, and partnerships with public truck stops.

Hyla network expansion includes a recent 10-year agreement with FirstElement for a hydrogen refueling station in Oakland, Calif.

“Through the alignment with notable industry partners, Nikola is actively securing its hydrogen supply chain and expanding its Hyla refueling infrastructure to support increased demand,” the company stated. “This ongoing development underscores Nikola’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and advancing the decarbonization agenda in transportation.”
