Miller Transporters recently secured two driver awards and an overall safety award at the Mississippi Safety Management Council’s 2018 Truck Driver Championship in Gulfport MS.
Allen Blair, from Petal MS, claimed the top honor, winning the Mississippi Trucking Association's 2018 Mississippi Truck Driver of the Year. Blair, a 3.5 million-mile safe driver, has been with Miller since 1978, driving out of the company’s Mobile AL terminal.
He received XL Insurance’s National Driver of the Year award in 2011. He also was a finalist for the first National Tank Truck Carriers Driver of the Year honor. By winning the state title, Blair’s eligible for 2018 National Driver of the Year at this year’s ATA National Truck Driving Championships in August in Columbus OH.
Rookie of the Year went to Purvis MS native Christopher Field, who finished with the highest score of any first-time competitor in the 2018 state driving competition. He also placed third in the five-axle tank category.
Field operates out of Miller’s New Orleans LA terminal.
“The skill and knowledge needed to operate a truck today is greater than ever,” said Lee Miller, Miller Transporters president. “These drivers are some of the best in all of trucking, not just in our segment of bulk truck.
“We have maintained a culture that puts a premium on doing things the right way and we have the drivers to prove that.”
Miller Transporters, a for-hire bulk tank truck carrier headquartered in Jackson MS, also took home first place for Outstanding Fleet Safety Record in the intercity, over-two-million-mile category.
In addition, Brent Ball of Heidelberg MS competed in the tank truck class and William Buchanan, from Florence MS, competed in the five-axle tractor-trailer class.
“We are very proud to have these four outstanding drivers representing our company,” said Ray Riley, Millers safety director. “Every day, they practice safety.”
