On-highway vehicles in the United States consume about 880 million gallons of diesel fuel each year. Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) consumption is expected to be 2% to 5% of fuel consumption, so the nation will require as much as 44 million gallons of DEF per year. Manufacturing DEF is not a problem. With MP Pumps' FRX 75-SP, efficiently and economically pumping it at thousands of fuel islands and truck stops isn't either. MP Pumps announces its DEF FRX 75-SP pump.
“To overcome vapor lock at the nozzle, other systems use one-half horsepower pumps,” said MP Pumps applications engineer Steve Buell.
By integrating its model FRX75-SP self-priming feature with the vent assembly on totes and drums, MP Pumps' FRX75-SP rated at just 1/6 horsepower can overcome the vapor lock. Equally important is the fact that a lower horsepower motor transfers less motor heat to the fluid, which is beneficial since DEF has a low vaporization temperature.
Those FRX 75-SP pumps are designed for a flow rate up to 6.5 gallons per minute with a 2.5-foot lift. They are intended for use in DEF dispensing systems for delivery to end users.
Other, larger MP Pump FRX models and Chemflo models are used to transfer DEF between bulk storage and tanker trucks. All the FRX and Chemflo pumps feature investment cast 316 stainless steel construction and carbon/ceramic/viton seals. Performance ratings range up to 450 gallons per minute and up to 30 horsepower.
