Houston-based bulk hauler adds bulk rental and transportation services division of IWS in third acquisition in two years

Space City Services continues to bolster its equipment rental and transportation services.

The Houston-headquartered hauler recently acquired the bulk rental and transportation services division of Industrial Waste Solutions (IWS), also based in Houston, in a move Space City says expands its services to current customers and provides competitive rates for new ones.

“What gets me excited about this acquisition is the opportunity to take our service offerings to a wider range of companies,” Robert Thomas, president of Space City Services, told Bulk Transporter. “For over two decades we’ve provided superior service for our customers along the Gulf Coast. I’m proud of the staff and drivers at Space City Services, and we are thrilled to welcome IWS employees into our company.

“We look forward to a smooth transition and a bright future.”

The acquisition is the third in two years for Space City. The carrier’s first pickup was in 2021, when it acquired Superior Waste Solutions, which included portable bathrooms, dumpsters, and chemical toilet and septic tank sanitization equipment. The second occurred eight months ago, when SCS acquired La Porte, Texas-based TIBC Rentals and Transportation in a deal that included frac tanks, watertight roll-off boxes, vacuum boxes, trash roll-off boxes, dewatering watertight roll-off boxes, and dewatering vacuum boxes.

With the addition of the IWS employees, who helped grow the division to what it is today, Space city’s workforce now includes approximately 200 people. The acquisition also boosts Space City’s inventory to more than 1,000 pieces of equipment, including tractors, vacuum trailers, stainless steel tankers and roll-off boxes.

The Lucore Street terminal near Pasadena also will be rebranded as Space City Services, the company said.

“This transaction gives us the resources to continue our reputation for operational excellence,” Thomas said in a news release. “With a record number of projects along the Gulf Coast, we will persist in our rapid, yet strategic growth through acquisition and geographic expansion over the next several years to drive productivity for our customers.”

Space City provides hazardous and non-hazardous waste transport, bulk chemical transport, turnaround and emergency response in-plant services, and waste-management solutions; as well as regional and long hauls in the lower 48 states for a wide range of clients, including refineries, petrochemical plants, environmental companies, and oilfield chemical producers.
