Liquified natural gas solutions specialist sends largest NA delivery of LNG to Canadian mine on new ‘Super B-train’ trailer

Cryopeak LNG Solutions, which is based in Canada, recently completed what it says is the largest North American delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by truck.

The 18,000-gallon shipment of LNG went to the Silvertip mine on the Yukon/British Columbia border, said Cryopeak, which made the delivery with its proprietary new “Super B-train.”

“Cryopeak’s mission is to provide LNG to remote locations in the most reliable, sustainable and economic manner possible,” said the company, which focuses its fuel delivery efforts on the mining industry, and for powering remote communities through commercial partnerships that help reduce carbon footprints and lower energy costs.

The Super B-train is designed to provide up to 70% greater load capacity than standard trailers operating in Canada, improving LNG’s competitiveness as a fuel source, the company said. Understanding that transportation often represents the largest cost of LNG for customers, Coeur Silvertip was happy to work with Cryopeak on this initiative.

“We are pleased to support the development of the new Super B-train LNG trailer, which will increase LNG payload and decrease transportation costs of LNG to the Silvertip mine,” said Rick Loughery, purchasing manager for Coeur Silvertip, which owns the mine.

Coeur Silvertip is a pioneer in the use of LNG fuel at its remote mine site. Typically, off-grid mines are powered by diesel or other liquid fuels, but Cryopeak worked with Coeur Silvertip to transition its operations to a more environmentally sound solution. This transition displaced high-cost diesel consumption and lowered the emissions profile, Cryopeak said.

“Lowering LNG costs through maximizing transportation payload is an important initiative for Cryopeak and our customers,” said Calum McClure, CEO at Cryopeak. “We are excited that this technology is now proven and going forward we will seek to extend the operation of this new trailer across Canada.”
