Mack reveals connected app, adaptive service plans

The heavy-duty truck manufacturer’s recent software enhancements and new powertrain coverage aim to maximize fleet uptime while curbing unexpected repair costs.

Key Highlights

  • The MyMack app now includes VIN-specific Digital Driver Guides for the Pioneer, Anthem, Granite and Keystone.
  • Drivers can remotely check fuel, oil and DEF levels and pre-condition equipped trucks’ cabs.
  • Mack Premium Plus covers preventive maintenance and repairs to key powertrain and driveline components.
  • Mack says data-driven maintenance can reduce planned downtime by up to 38% and extend oil-drain intervals to 60,000 miles.

Heavy-duty truck manufacturers are increasingly leaning into data-driven technologies to maximize fleet uptime, and Mack Trucks recently underscored this shift by unveiling an enhanced driver application alongside a newly expanded service contract. Together, these rollouts reflect the industry’s broader push to digitize the cab and leverage connected vehicle data to simplify daily operations.

By intertwining remote diagnostics and adaptive maintenance schedules, fleets can better navigate the modern challenges of driver retention and unexpected repair costs.

MyMack app enhancements

Mack integrated the Digital Driver Guide directly into its MyMack smartphone app, eliminating the need for drivers to wrestle with external web links or QR codes. Pre-programmed with the vehicle’s specific Vehicle Identification Number, the update delivers personalized truck information instantly for the Mack Pioneer, Anthem, Granite, and Keystone models.

“With the MyMack app, we’re putting more of the information and functionality drivers need right at their fingertips,” Brandon Page, Mack senior product manager for vehicle electrical and electronics, said in a news release. “Integrating the Digital Driver Guide into the app makes it even easier for drivers to access information specific to their truck, while features such as remote vehicle monitoring and climate control help make their day more convenient and productive."

The mobile application also grants drivers remote visibility over vital signs—including fuel, oil, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid levels—and, for trucks equipped with the Mack Integrated Parking Cooler, the ability to pre-condition cab temperatures before their shift begins.

Premium Plus service contract

The manufacturer also rolled out the Mack Premium Plus service contract, which aggressively bundles standard preventive maintenance with heavy-hitting powertrain repair coverage. This elevated service tier financially shields the engine, exhaust aftertreatment system, transmission, clutch (including the wearable lining kit), and chassis driveline components.

Leaning on connected vehicle utilization data to dynamically tailor service schedules, the adaptive maintenance plan can curb planned downtime by up to 38% and safely stretch oil-drain intervals from 35,000 to as much as 60,000 miles, Mack reported.

“Mack Premium Plus offers customers a more predictable way to manage preventive maintenance and powertrain repairs,” said Ashish Sadhu, Mack Trucks services director. “By combining comprehensive maintenance support with powertrain repair coverage in one contract, we are helping customers stay focused on their operations while the Mack dealer network helps keep their trucks performing.”

Tri-State Truck Center, a Memphis-based dealership that helped pilot the program earlier this year, noted the operational advantages of fixed monthly billing and inflation protection.

“Service contracts create the desired relationship for customers and dealers through integration of operations, simplicity of monthly billing, inflation protection, risk reduction and increased uptime,” stated Will Maddox, executive vice president of sales and leasing for Tri-State.

“I believe they provide the customer with the best and most cost-effective way to maintain their assets.”
