Western Star Truck Sales Inc announced the availability of the Detroit Diesel DD15 engine during the 2008 Great American Trucking Show August 21-23 in Dallas, Texas.
The DD15's six-cylinder, in-line design is available in output and torque variants from 455 horsepower to 560 horsepower and 1,550 to 1,850 lb/ft, including dual torque ratings for special applications.
“The combination of Western Star trucks and the DD15 results in a long-lasting, tough and reliable tool that is ready to take on the most demanding applications,” said Rich Shearing, manager of product strategy for Western Star. “Western Star customers expect the highest quality at every turn, and the DD15 delivers.”
Introduced in late 2007, the DD15 achieves impressive fuel economy and incredible torque response as well as superb power and performance. The DD15 will provide outstanding horsepower and improved torque performance for targeted Western Star vocational market segments.
The DD15 delivers up to 5% better fuel economy than the Series 60 largely due to its turbo compounding technology and Amplified Common Rail Fuel System (ACRS). Turbo compounding turns wasted exhaust gas into useable power producing up to 50 bonus horsepower without sacrificing fuel economy.
The DD15 is tailored to North America's EPA ‘07 emissions regulations, and its advanced design means that with the addition of BlueTec SCR technology it is also ready for upcoming EPA 2010 standards. The DD15 is the first of three all-new engines Detroit Diesel will be introducing between now and 2010. In time, engines sharing this design will be available globally in all Daimler Trucks heavy-duty models.
Western Star has a new daycab conversion kit to replace the Stratosphere sleeper and give Western Star trucks a second life in a different configuration. The kit includes a new overhead console, new roof cap with reinforcements, new headliner, new back wall and trim panel, new cantrails, and new glass for the rear window.
Also new from Western Star is a line of premium stainless steel accessories, including fenders, bumpers, and sun visors. Manufactured using the highest grade of non-magnetic 304 stainless steel, all of the accessories contain a highly corrosion-resistant property that protects against the extremely corrosive anti-icing agents used on roads today.
