Mack Trucks Inc. has received an award of approximately $8.6 million from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command for 66 MACK Granite Elite model tractors (known domestically as the MACK Granite Axle Back model) over the next three years. The vehicles will be built at the Mack Macungie Assembly Operations plant outside of Allentown PA. Spare parts will also be provided.
This contract is the third Mack has received from the U.S. Army in October 2008. Mack had announced an award from TACOM of approximately $28.5 million for 152 MACK Vision Elite model tractors and the same number of heavy-duty low boy trailers. The company also indicated it had been awarded a contract of more than $1 million from the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), under which the MACK MP8 engine will be adapted to efficiently and effectively operate on the JP-8 fuel traditionally used in jets.
