  • Bruce Cornelius dedicated 42 years to Werts Welding & Tank Service, shaping its growth and reputation.
  • He led the expansion of the parts division from a single warehouse to eight locations nationwide.
  • Under his leadership, the parts team grew from a few employees to over 50, reflecting his impact on company growth.

For more than 40 years, customers across the tank trailer industry knew if Bruce Cornelius was involved, the job would get done right.

Now he’s focused on a new priority—enjoying his well-earned retirement.

Cornelius officially retired from Werts Welding & Tank Service on June 30, bringing to a close a remarkable 42-year career in the industry, including 38 years as parts manager at Werts Welding.

“Bruce’s retirement marks the end of an incredible 42-year career with Werts Welding & Tank Service,” Dwight Werts, Werts Welding president and CEO, told Bulk Transporter. “He has been a loyal and dedicated employee who witnessed our company grow from a small repair facility into the nationwide organization we are today. Throughout the years, Bruce led our parts department with a steady hand through both good times and challenging ones.

“He evolved with the market, willingly took on new product lines—and was always committed to doing what was best for our customers and our company.”

Bruce joined Werts Welding in 1984, when the company operated a single parts warehouse with only a small staff. In 1988, he was named parts manager, a role in which he helped lead the transformation of the parts division into one of the largest and most respected operations in the tank trailer industry.

Working alongside the Werts family, Bruce played an integral role in expanding the company's footprint from one warehouse to eight locations serving customers across the country, the company reported. During that same period, the parts department grew from just a few employees to a team of more than 50 under his leadership.

Over the course of four decades, Bruce witnessed the tank trailer industry evolve several times over. He saw major changes in equipment, technology, distribution, and customer expectations. Having experienced each of those transitions firsthand, he could tell stories for days about how the industry has changed over the decades and the people who helped shape it.

While those accomplishments are impressive, they tell only part of the story.

Bruce became a trusted advisor to customers, a mentor to countless employees, and a respected partner to manufacturers and suppliers. His knowledge of the industry, calm approach to problem solving, and unwavering commitment to customer service earned the respect of everyone who had the opportunity to work with him.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Werts Welding. The company he helped build has grown into a nationwide parts organization, and his influence can still be seen in the people, the processes, and the relationships that continue to drive its success.

“On behalf of the Werts family, I want to sincerely thank Bruce for his many years of service and loyalty,” Dwight concluded. “His contributions have left a lasting impact on our company, and we wish him nothing but the very best in his well-earned retirement.”
