Heil Trailer lands $588M Army contract

April 28, 2025
The tank trailer manufacturer will build ground-refueling petroleum trailers for the US military at its Athens plant as part of a newly secured deal.

Heil Trailer recently landed a contract with the U.S. Army for its tactical fuel distribution system (TFDS).

The Detroit Arsenal Army Contracting Command in Michigan awarded the 10-year, $588 million hybrid contract to Heil. The estimated completion date is March 21, 2030, with option years to be completed by 2035, the manufacturer reported.

“We are proud to partner with the U.S. Army’s product team, Petroleum and Water Systems (PAWS), on this new contract,” Kevin Tumlin, director of defense sales and business development for Heil parent Engineered Transportation International, said in a news release. “For decades, Heil Trailer has been manufacturing defense products that are in use all over the world.”

Heil’s TFDS is a ground-refueling petroleum trailer with aviation fueling capabilities. The TFDS units will be produced at the EnTrans manufacturing facility in Athens, Tennessee, which has been fulfilling contracts for the U.S. military since 2001.

“This award reflects the unwavering dedication we have to supporting the U.S. military,” said Jake Radish, EnTrans president and COO. “We are honored to serve those who serve our country, and our team is focused on executing this contract with flawless precision and pride. With our capacity, new facilities and infrastructure, the contract will compliment our ability to serve our current customers.”

Added Michael Gray, EnTrans vice president of defense programs: “This contract marks an exciting new chapter for EnTrans and Heil Trailer. It reflects not only the trust the U.S. Army has placed in our capabilities, but also the beginning of a broader vision to expand our defense offerings and partnerships.

“I’m proud to be joining the team at such a pivotal moment.”
