May 11, 2016

The tragic wildfire in and around Fort McMurray AB, Canada has greatly affected the community and the business sector. This is in the heart of Canada’s oil sands region.

In response to the tragedy, Tremcar West has donated $1,000 to the Red Cross to help the community in this time of despair and insecurity. Jacques Tremblay, president of Tremcar West, invites other companies to do the same and help a region that has helped our businesses grow and develop throughout the last decade.

Wind-whipped flames have engulfed nearly 250,000 acres (101,000 hectares) in western Canada's energy heartland, according to a Reuters report. The wildfire has forced some 88,000 residents, the entire population of Fort McMurray, to flee for safety, and has threatened two oil sands production sites south of the city. At least 10 oil sand operators have cut production due to evacuations and other emergency measures that complicated delivery of petroleum by rail, pipeline, and highway.

Television news reports continue to show chilling images of the natural disaster: Canadian Broadcasting Corp, CBS, and BBC.
