Schneider chosen For-Hire Fleet of the Year

Schneider National Inc has been selected as the For-Hire Fleet of the Year by Fleet Owner magazine. In particular, Schneider is being honored for its driver recruitment and retention efforts in 2005. This is the first year that the publication has recognized Schneider National.

The award recognizes carriers that take innovative, fresh approaches to fleet management. An awards ceremony will be held in March 2006 at the Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville KY to name the winners of each category.

Initiatives aiding recruitment and retention include:

  • Implementing the largest compensation and work-life improvement package in company history.

  • Employing mature Americans; the company was recently named a featured employer by AARP.

  • Developing a driver scheduling.

  • Offering programs such as the Home Run initiative, which provides drivers with more predictable work schedules and up to 17 weeks at home per year.

  • Providing equipment that increases driver comfort and safety, including Webasto in-cab heaters, and ArvinMeritor anti-rollover systems and automatic transmissions.

  • Improving its fuel surcharge program.

  • Maintaining more than 30 Operating Centers (company-owned truck stops) in the United States and Canada to provide fuel, maintenance, food, and other resources for drivers.
