NHTSA calls for new brake standards

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a final rule on service and parking brake safety standards that includes trucks weighing greater than 10,000 pounds.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a final rule on service and parking brake safety standards that includes trucks weighing greater than 10,000 pounds.

Earlier requirements were applied to vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or less.

Published in the Federal Register June 30, the rule (49 CFR Part 571) goes into effect June 30,2005.

Comments should be submitted by August 15, 2005, to administrator, NHTSA, 400 Seventh St SW, Washington DC 20590.
