The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced a 90-day waiver from the federal hours-of-service (HOS) rules for truck drivers handling shipments of anhydrous ammonia for agricultural applications

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced a 90-day waiver from the federal hours-of-service (HOS) rules for truck drivers handling shipments of anhydrous ammonia for agricultural applications. The waiver took effect March 22 and runs through June 21.

Drivers qualify for the waiver when transporting anhydrous ammonia from a distribution point to a local farm retailer or to the farmer end user. Shipments must be within a 100-air-mile radius of the retail of wholesale distribution point, according to FMCSA officials.

To operate under the HOS waiver, tank truck carriers must have a “satisfactory” safety rating or be unrated. Carriers with a “conditional” or “unsatisfactory” are prohibited from operating under the waiver.
