Tank trucks could be used by terrorists in attacks against fuel depots and Jewish synagogues and schools in the United States, according to information relayed to the nation's law enforcement agencies Friday, June 21.

The information was provided by the FBI after the agency received uncorroborated reports that terrorists might use the vehicles in the United States and overseas, said Paul Bresson, FBI spokesman in Washington DC.

Bresson emphasized that the reports were unsubstantiated and were issued in order to raise awareness for law enforcement officials.

The report follows other FBI concerns about the use of tank trucks by terrorists and an incident that occurred May 23 at a loading terminal near Tel Aviv, Israel, in which a bomb was planted on a tank truck and exploded by remote control. Workers at the terminal extinguished the fire before it could spread.
