Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (MAP) is recognizing more than half its 315 professional transport drivers for outstanding safety performance.
Based in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio, 162 of MAP's drivers have traveled more than a million miles with no preventable accidents. Forty-two have safely driven two million miles; and three individuals have accomplished three million miles with no preventable accidents. These three include Michael Egan and Doug Smith of MAP's Covington KY terminal and Gary Kuhns at Champaign IL.
Combined, these drivers have safely traveled some 206 million miles, equal to about 8,000 trips around the equator. To honor these exceptional drivers and further promote its safety culture, MAP has created a new Transport Operations Driver Recognition Program, in accordance with National Safety Council standards and criteria.
“The program consists of two areas of recognition: Million Mile Driver and Safe Operation,” says Larry Davis, proprietary fleet manager for MAP's transport operations group. “Million Mile recognition goes to those who travel a million miles or more accident-free. Safe Operation recognition is for drivers who complete a calendar year without a preventable spill, blend, accident, work-related injury, misdelivery, or moving violation. We currently have drivers with up to 34 years of safe operation; an amazing accomplishment.”
