The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has awarded two member companies the top industry award for outstanding and sustained Responsible Care performance. Winners are Bayer Corporation in the large-size company category and ExxonMobil Chemical Company in the medium-size company category. Dow and Lyondell Chemical Company were recognized as runners-up in the large and medium-size company categories, respectively. The awards are presented annually to companies that show excellence in implementing Responsible Care, the chemical industry’s performance improvement initiative.
To be eligible, a company must perform in the top ten percent, or be one of the top four companies in its size group on total recordable injury and illness incident rates. Companies must also have zero employee and contractor fatalities for the last two years, have fully implemented the Responsible Care Codes, completed a management system verification, and have reported company performance goals and progress. Eligible companies then complete an application describing their achievements in reducing emissions and incidents, their participation in product stewardship and product testing, and their involvement in community outreach, according to ACC.
