To assure that rail shippers have a coordinated and effective effort to deregulate the railroad industry and enhance competition among rail carriers, The National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) and the Alliance for Rail Competition (ARC) will collaborate under a new joint venture that will be called the Coalition for Rail-to-Rail Competition.

The coalition will be directed by a steering committee consisting of equal representation from both organizations. However, as other shipper groups join the coalition, they, too, likely will be represented on the steering committee. Ed Emmett, president of NITL, will serve as spokesman for the coalition and will coordinate all direct lobbying efforts regarding this issue.
