A Missouri congressman has introduced a bill (HR 1079) to cap the fee at $50 for hazmat drivers' background checks, according to information from the politician's office.

Rep Russ Carnahan (D-MO) stated that the action, if eventually approved by Congress, would permit the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) to reimburse states for costs incurred in connection with background record checks.

As a result of earlier legislation supported by the congressman, drivers who have already undergone and passed a hazmat endorsement background check are not subject to an additional check, nor will they be subjected to an additional fee, according to the information.
