Linde Gas has purchased 10 new tanker trailers with the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by PSI. The nitrogen cryogenic and oxygen cryogenic trailers are supplied to Linde Gas from Fiba Techology and James Russell Engineering.
All new tanker and compressed air trailers purchased by Linde since 1995 are equipped with MTIS. As trailers purchased before 1995 are scheduled for rehab or others are integrated into their fleet, MTIS is added. The company currently runs 220-plus trailers with the system.
Karl Kerstetter, manager of bulk fleet maintenance and design for Linde, said, “We install the PSI system primarily because it allows us, as a hazardous material private carrier fleet, to utilize a controlled retread process, even with our wide-base single tires. Before installing MTIS, we were unable to use retreads on our fleet equipment, but now we can by maintaining proper tire inflation with MTIS. Overall we've reduced tire cost by 28% a year since 2002 and catastrophic failures caused by wide-base single blowouts have been cut by 68%.”
New heat-sensing technology being incorporated into MTIS will soon be tested by Linde Gas.
