For the third time, Hoyer drivers from 17 nations displayed their skills at the “Hoyer Driver of the Year” competition.

Hoyer drivers displayed their skills in a range of disciplines, including an obstacle course, the vehicle pre-check, a test in coupling/uncoupling of trailers, a test in a simulator, and a written test. Visitors to the competition also had the opportunity to take part in a range of events. A driving simulator and a crash test sledge demonstrated what it is like to drive a truck, and the forces unleashed during a traffic accident.

At an evening dinner gala, prizes were presented by Ortwin Nast, Hoyer chief executive officer. First place went to Morten Damgaard Jeppesen of Hoyer Denmark, with David Glyn Hampson of Hoyer England and Andrzey Rys of Hoyer Poland following in second and third place.

Nast emphasized that maintaining top safety, health, environmental, and quality standards — or SHEQ for short — was a decisive element of Hoyer's corporate strategy.

According to Nast, the sensitivity displayed in connection with transporting hazardous cargo had in recent years led to a sharp increase in the demand for Behavior-Based Safety (BBS)-certified drivers. Hoyer had responded by providing suitable BBS instruction and training courses.

“We were able to see the positive results of our training courses first-hand here in Dormagen,” said Nast.
