Freightliner Trucks has added a new 112-inch BBC cab for its line of Columbia heavy conventional trucks and tractors. The new Columbia 112 was introduced during the Mid-America Trucking show in Louisville, Kentucky, March 19 to 21, 2003.
The Columbia 112 adds a medium length cab to the already popular line of Columbia 120 vehicles, first shown in 1999. The shorter cab adds driver visibility and maneuverability to the Columbia line, particularly for distribution and bulk hauling operations. It is built as a daycab or in a range of sleeper options. The new tractor utilizes a set-back front axle and provides a wheel cut of up to 50 degrees.
The new tractor is available with Mercedes-Benz MBE4000 or Caterpillar engines with horsepower ratings up to 470. A wide range of transmissions from Eaton Fuller, Meritor, or Allison is available.
Front axle and suspension are rated at 12,000 lb with the Freightliner leaf and a half spring suspension as standard and the Freightliner AirLiner front suspension available as an option. AirLiner or TufTrac drive axle suspensions with ratings of 40,000, 46,000, or 52,000 lb are available.
Production will begin in the third quarter 2003.
