Freight transportation index rises in April

The Transportation Services Index (TSI) for freight rose 0.1 percent to one percent to 112.6 in April from the March level of 112.5.

The Transportation Services Index (TSI) for freight rose 0.1 percent to one percent to 112.6 in April from the March level of 112.5.

This is the fourth increase in the last six months. The April 2005 level of 112.6 is 1.6 percent higher than the April 2004 level of 110.9, according to Department of Transportation information.

TSI is a single seasonally adjusted index of the month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, including railroad, air, truck, inland waterways, pipeline, and local transit.
