Hoyer will buy from Odfjell its 50% of the tank container joint venture company Hoyer-Odfjell BV, based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, thus becoming full owner of the tank container company.

Founded in 1999 for the worldwide marketing of tank containers, Hoyer-Odfjell operates almost 8,500 units. With operation of these containers in the deep sea business and the additional 5,600 units serving the European market, Hoyer will become the world's second-largest tank container operator.

Reasons for the takeover lie in the different core businesses. Since the founding of Hoyer-Odfjell, the tank container business has been considered one of the core businesses of Hoyer and not Odfjell, a major Norwegian parcel tanker operator.

Hoyer says its customers will benefit from these global logistics opportunities. The global activity of Hoyer will be structured as a separate business unit based in Rotterdam, taking care of all Hoyer activities outside Europe. The business model, service level, and contacts will remain the same for all activities worldwide.
