The average on-road diesel price across the nation continued last week on a slow slide, down three cents from $2.920 per gallon to $2.888, according to information reported May 22 by the Department of Energy.
The week before, reported May 15, the average was slightly lower by two cents.
Compared to this time last year, on-road diesel is higher by 73 cents per gallon. In May of 2005, on-road diesel consumers were paying about $2.16, but still less than the peak reported in October of 2005 of about $3.10 per gallon.
