Airgas Inc announced its AiRx diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) has been certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API)

Airgas Inc announced its AiRx diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) has been certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). DEF is used in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to reduce harmful diesel exhaust pollutants. API certification verifies that manufacturers and distributors are operating in compliance with industry standards and that DEF meets quality standards. Airgas markets AiRx DEF through Airgas Specialty Products.

Ted Schulte, Airgas Specialty Products president, said Airgas has been providing pollution control systems for air quality since the early 1980s.

“Our nitrogen oxide abatement, or DeNOx, experience with stationary applications, such as coal- and natural gas-fired power plants, served us very well in creating Airgas AiRx to work with diesel engine SCR technology in mobile applications,” Schulte said.

Available in a variety of package sizes ranging from one-gallon containers to bulk trailers, AiRx is supplied to truck stops, fuel retailers, private fleets, and lubricant/fuel distributors nationwide.

With more than 5,000 vehicles, Airgas maintains one of the largest private truck fleets in the nation and will be using AiRx DEF in all of its new trucks that use SCR technology.
