Barbara Windsor takes up role as ATA chairman

Barbara Windsor made trucking industry history during the American Trucking Associations 2010 Management Conference October 16-19 when she accepted the ATA chairmanship for 2010-2011. She is the first woman to serve in the top positions of both ATA and National Tank Truck Carriers.

President and chief executive officer of Hahn Transportation Inc, New Market MD, Windsor also is the second tank truck carrier executive in the past three years to lead ATA. Charles “Shorty” Whittington, president of Grammer Industries Inc, was ATA chairman for the 2008-2009 term.

During her acceptance remarks Windsor discussed her family’s involvement in trucking industry associations from the very start of Hahn Transportation, which has grown into a regional fleet operation hauling petroleum and construction materials throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

”My grandfather, James Hahn, became chairman of the Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA) in 1967,” she said. “His daughter and my mother Rebecca Hahn Windsor became the first female chairman of MMTA in 1988, and I became the second female chairman of the state association in 1997. I really wish my grandfather could be here to see his granddaughter very proudly and humbly accept the chairmanship of this great organization that he believed in and supported for many years. Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to be an American, proud to be a trucker, and proud to be your chairman.”
