NTTC, Battelle officially launch tank corrosion database

Nov. 12, 2014

National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) and Battelle announced during Tank Truck Week November 10-12 that the new Liquid Product Database was ready to go live. The LPD addresses corrosion characteristics of various chemicals in relation to stainless and lean duplex steel cargo tanks.

Specifically, the database focuses on the corrosion impact to cargo tanks constructed of 316 stainless steel and lean duplex 2101. Through the rest of this week, the database is available to anyone at lpdbat.azurewebsites.net. After that, the database will be password-accessible at the NTTC website (www.tanktruck.org).

The Liquid Product Database has been adding product steadily over the past year, according to John Cannon, vice-president of engineering for The Walker Group. “Battelle exceeded our expectations on this, and we believe this will be a valuable resource for tank truck carriers,” he said. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do, though.

He and Doug Pape, senior research engineer at Battelle, added that the LPD will be steadily expanded and improved over coming years. “We’ll add user-requested features as needed, and we’ll always be adding corrosion data,” Pape said.
